You may noticed my frantic frequency of posts (I was at two a day for a while month!) has slowed down of late so I thought I'd give a quick update.
NOTE: Translation seems to have broken along the way, when I get a chance I'll fix that.
I started this blog and the mostlylucid.net site as a way to pass time after a contract unexpectedly came to an end and while I had a ton of time on my hands. For various reasons my new job search became more urgent (customers sometimes don't pay their bills) and a big contract unexpectedly fell through at the last minute.
I won't go into WHY that contract fell through but it was a new one on me in my 15 years of freelancing; they didn't like a tweet! I don't like the idea of references; to me they seem outdated and especially with a career as long and storied as mine, I don't think they're necessary. But this company wanted a reference from my last 3 clients and when they saw a tweet they didn't like they pulled the plug. Probably a good thing in the long run as I don't think I would have enjoyed working with them.
Anyway since then I've been drifting around and yes I got a bit down so stopped the frantic pace of blogging (frankly the site is in a good state now so I had no pressing development to do). I've been doing a lot of reading and thinking about what I want to do next. I've been doing a lot of work on my resume and I've been applying for jobs.
One thing I've yet to add is the new Newsletter functionality but obviously I WILL finish that when the spirit moves me (as I'm blogging less I don't expect to be getting as many signups so it's not a priority).
In future while working on these new contracts; one is 3-4 days a week the other 1-2 for the next few months at least; I'll no doubt come across things I need to research more so I'll blog about those things (NO CUSTOMER CODE OF COURSE). I also plan on adding an ad-hoc consulting hours purchasing system; I think it could be interesting to offer my services in that way; I LOVE variety and I think it could be a good way to get a lot of different projects on the go at once.
If you're interested in hiring me for a project or just want to chat about tech then please get in touch. I'm always happy to chat about tech and I'm always looking for new projects to work on.
